Penn State Golf Courses
Penn State University is home to two 18-hole championship quality public golf courses, each with its own unique character and features. Situated in State College, these courses offer a fun and exciting round for both beginners and experienced golfers alike.
The White Course provides a challenging, yet fun round of golf and will test even the best players. The course was renovated in 2005 to update some of the holes which date back as far as 1922. Being that this is an older course, it has smaller crowned greens and with nearly 40 bunkers on the front side alone, you need to manage your shots. The first few holes on the back nine are the perfet opportunity to make up for strokes lost on the front nine. Several elevation changes will add to the challenge presented by the fairway bunkers. This par 72, 6345 yard course is certainly worth a try.
The Blue Course is the longer and more difficult of the two courses. This course is the competition course for the Penn State Golf Teams, providing top-notch quality throughout the entire golfing season. In 2006 it was renovated with the addition of several ponds and the lengthening of course by over 600 yards. The front nine requires you to take care when teeing off. The greens are surrounded by bunkers, forcing you to be creative with your short game. The back nine features the only water hazards on either course. Strategy will come into play on these holes, as they seem easier then they really are. The tree lined fairways add to the beauty, and challenge, of this couse. A rewarding view of the clubhouse awaits all who walk up to the 18th green. This par 36, 7172 yard course requires both accuracy and skill and definitely requires your top game.
